Indie-rock veterans Wheat have produced their first album on a major label. Sellouts!
Nah, just kiddin'. Despite it being in the majors, it was still produced by Dave Fridmann of Flaming Lips/Mercury Rev production fame. However, the album doesn't have his usual synth-orchestra tricks: any keyboards in the mix are stuck in the background. Mostly what you get is well-produced modern rock, in which the songs propel themselves along energetically. There are a couple of pretty, downtempo numbers such as "Go Get the Cops" (or "Thinking It Over", the lyrics would have you believe) and "Hey, So Long (Ohio)". Pretty much the whole thing is, at the least, listenable, but most of the time it's enjoyably catchy. You know, it's the sort of thing that should be on the radio.
